Having difficulty deciding where to ‘Go Wild?’ Well then, check out Wild Volunteer’s ‘Wild 5’ just to narrow it down for you!
Green Chaka Villas – Seminyak, Bali
Beautifully nestled at the exclusive Area of Petitenget Seminyak, on the Island on Bali. Private Indonesian contemporary style Villa with 3 all suite bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms, furnished with fine Indonesian Furniture and Antiques. The villas are surrounded by tropical lush garden and is the perfect place for a relaxing Bali holiday, as it is tucked away, but close enough to the ‘fun’. Although NOT close to any wildlife destinations, we just love that it is so different and animal/vegan friendly.
Wild Volunteer says – “Wild Volunteer has added this as a ‘Wild Place’ because the owners are animal lovers and have two rescued cats and a rescued dog.”
Tungog Rainforest Eco Camp (TREC) – Kinabatangan, Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
Hidden in meander-belt forest on the fringe of the pristine Tungog Lake, the Tungog Rainforest Eco Camp (or TREC for short) offers a unique insight into the secretive life of a Borneo Rainforest. There are ten live-in observation platforms called “camp-platforms” or “jungle-platforms” with limited accommodation for only 20 eco visitors. TREC has numerous eco design features built in to ensure zero waste, zero chemicals, a zero energy spreadsheet and maximum water conservation.
Wild Volunteer says – “Wild Volunteer stayed here for 5 nights and the wildlife was second to none is Asia.”
Green Hill Guest House – Bukit Lawang, Sumatra
In the heart of ‘up river’ Bukit Lawang village, overlooking the Bohorok river with amazing views of the rainforest, easy access to Gunung Leuser National Park (GLNP) and only 20 minutes from park entry. Andrea Molyneaux (your host) has an MSc in Primate Conservation and operates an environmental education programme for adults (guides, visitors and locals) and a ‘Nature Club’ for local children. An excellent, central village location with a community atmosphere and some of the best food in the village.
Wildlife treks and river tubing can be organised to suit your needs.
Kupu-kupu Garden Guest House & Café – Bukit Lawang, Sumatra
Located in tropical rainforest near the village of Bukit Lawang (gateway to the hills) on the edge of the Bohorok River and directly opposite the Gunung Leuser National Park, which is home to the Sumatran Orangutan and other amazing wildlife. Kupu-Kupu Garden is a 20 minute walk from the little village and is one of the quietest locations available, and with only three rooms, we think it is PERFECT! Wild Volunteer LOVES this Wild Place and cannot wait to go back.
Wildlife treks, river tubing and casual Indonesian cooking classes can be organised from Kupu-Kupu with excellent guides/teachers.
Khao Yai Cottage – Khao Yai, Thailand
Couple Khao Yai Cottage with a Tontan Travel Tour and you have the perfect combination of peace and quiet and wildlife. Khao Yai Cottages is located very close the National Park entrance and is perfect for birdwatchers or wildlife watchers in general. Although a small property you don’t miss out on amenities or comfort. The food here was the best we had in Thailand. Although you can visit the National Park independently, I would recommend a tour.
Wild Volunteer says – “We cannot rave about TONTAN TRAVEL tours enough – The guides are absolutely brilliant and the tours are personalised to suit you!”
Our Jungle House – Khao Sok, Thailand
Located on the edge of Khao Sok National Park in Thailand, you can live in a private treehouse along the riverside with towering Limestone Mountains on 25 acres of privately owned rainforest. Comfortable and peaceful, each tree house and jungle bungalow has been crafted to blend in with the local environment and bring you the natural delights of the jungle. Great food and wildlife abounds.
